A summer morning on the island of Cortegada, Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park. Trujillo sets up his wooden easel on the shores of the Atlantic, with the Arousa estuary in the background and the coast of Vilagarcía outlined in the distance.

The brush moves directly over the damp cardstock, capturing the changing Atlantic light in real time, the ocher rocks covered in seaweed, the turquoise waters, and the twisted pines that peer over the shore.

This small-format watercolor is the result of that en plein air painting session: a living work, executed with the immediacy that only painting before the real subject allows. Each brushstroke contains the humidity of the environment, the sound of the water, and the artist's concentration before the island's untouched nature.
